Vision Statement:
The vision of the Joint Council on Thoracic Surgery Education Inc, is to define and redesign the scope of practice of cardiothoracic surgery. In order to accomplish this, the vision includes identifying, introducing, and supporting innovative new educational techniques, improving faculty commitment and expertise, and guiding the redesign of the educational paradigm. Key to this plan is improvement in both surgical resident education and continuing medical education for the practicing cardiothoracic surgeons. This redesign will address the knowledge and skills that are germane to the specialty, innovative educational interventions that can be employed to address these knowledge / skill areas, and methods of assessing the effectiveness of the educational efforts.
